Learn why a sleep study may be recommended, how to prepare, and what happens after your study with Meridian Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine.

Your clinician may recommend a sleep study after evaluating symptoms such as loud snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing during sleep, gasping, disrupted sleep, or excessive daytime sleepiness. A study helps your clinician understand what is happening during sleep.
Some patients may be appropriate for home sleep-apnea testing following a clinical evaluation, while others may need a different type of study. Your clinician will explain which testing pathway is right for you and how it will be arranged.
Follow the instructions provided for your specific test. Preparation can vary, so do not change your medications, caffeine, alcohol, or sleep schedule unless your care team tells you to. Contact the office if your instructions are unclear.
Your results are interpreted and reviewed with you, followed by an individualized care plan when appropriate. Not every patient receives the same test or treatment, and sleep apnea care does not always mean CPAP. Your clinician will discuss the options that fit your results and needs.
