Preparing for Laboratory Testing

Use this guide alongside the instructions provided by your Meridian care team. Preparation varies by test.

Your order

Laboratory tests are ordered by your clinician. Confirm the test, location, and timing in your appointment information before your visit.

Appointment or walk-in

Ask the front desk whether your test requires an appointment and which Meridian location to visit. Availability varies by location.

Fasting and medications

Fast only if your clinician directs you to. Some tests require fasting and others do not. Do not stop or change medications unless your clinician specifically instructs you to do so.

What to bring

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card
  • Your current medication list
  • Any order or paperwork the office provided

Specimen instructions

If your test requires a specimen collected at home or special timing, follow the instructions provided for that test.

Billing

Some laboratory work may be processed by an outside laboratory, which may send a separate bill. See the Financial & Billing Guide.

Results

Results are sent to your ordering clinician, who will explain how results are shared and whether follow-up is needed.
